CM Prem Singh Tamang pays tribute to late Sanu Lama

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on July 16 paid his respects and heartfelt tribute to Padma Shri Late Gadul Singh Lama, also known as Sanu Lama, a towering figure in Nepali literature and one of the state’s most respected literary personalities. The Chief Minister visited his residence and met the bereaved family to express his condolences.
Calling the loss “irreparable,” CM Tamang described Sanu Lama as not only a gifted writer and lyricist but also a true patriot who devoted his life to enriching Nepali literature and cultural identity.
“I offered my heartfelt condolences and paid tribute to one of the most illustrious figures in Nepali literature, a gifted lyricist, and a true patriot Padma Shri Late Gadul Singh Lama (Sanu Lama) at his residence today,” said the Chief Minister in a public message. “This is not only an irreparable loss for our state but also for the entire literary world.”
Sanu Lama was widely respected for his deep contributions to Nepali poetry, short stories, and lyrics. His writings touched generations of readers and inspired many upcoming writers across Sikkim, Darjeeling, and Nepali-speaking communities across India and abroad. He was known for his simplicity, clarity in writing, and ability to connect deeply with the everyday lives and struggles of people.
Awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India, Sanu Lama’s body of work includes some of the most treasured pieces in Nepali literature. His literary journey began at a young age and continued for several decades, earning him both national and international acclaim.
