CM Prem Singh Tamang lays foundation stone for cultural complex and Maitreya Buddha Statue in North Sikkim*

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on September 26 laid the foundation stone for the Cho-Lung-Trul-Sum Cultural Complex, which includes the construction of a majestic Maitreya Buddha statue ranging from 65 to 85 feet in height. This monumental project is set to grace the landscape of Thangu Lachen, located near the Indo-China border in the Mangan district of Sikkim.

The foundation stone laying ceremony took place on the second day of the Janta Bhetghat Karyakram, an event that aims to foster closer connections between the government and the local communities of Sikkim. Chief Minister Tamang, during his visit, actively engaged with the residents, lending a keen ear to their concerns and grievances.

In a virtual ceremony attended by several dignitaries, Chief Minister Tamang inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Cho-Lung-Trul-Sum Cultural Complex. The event saw the esteemed presence of Minister of Culture, Bishnu Sharma Khatiwara, along with MLA of Lachen Mangan cum Minister of Road and Bridges, Samdup Lepcha, Minister of RMDD, Sonam Lama, Minister of Agriculture L.N. Nepal, Minister of Forest, Kamra Loday, Minister of PHE, Bhim Hang Subba, and Minister of Power, M.N. Sherpa, among others, including departmental secretaries.

The construction of the Maitreya Buddha statue, also known as Cho-Lung-Trul-Sum, is estimated to cost approximately 84.65 crore rupees. The primary objective of this project is to promote the development and preservation of the rich culture and traditions of the region, with a specific focus on enhancing tourism associated with Buddhism in North Sikkim.
