Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on May 25 congratulated Dr. Chewang Norbu Bhutia for being mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat. The recognition came during the NDA meeting where the Prime Minister praised Dr. Bhutia’s work with “Crafted Fibers,” a brand that promotes traditional Sikkimese weaving and sustainable craftsmanship.

In a statement, Chief Minister Tamang said, “Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Chewang Norbu Bhutia on being featured in today’s Mann Ki Baat by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. His inspiring journey with Crafted Fibers, a brand rooted in Sikkim’s rich weaving traditions and sustainable practices, is a proud moment for us all.”

The Chief Minister also said that this national recognition not only highlights Dr. Bhutia’s personal hard work and commitment but also brings attention to Sikkim’s rich culture and traditional arts. “This is not just about one person. It is about our people, our culture, and the spirit of entrepreneurship that exists in our state,” Tamang added.

Crafted Fibers is known for using eco-friendly materials and for supporting local artisans who keep the traditional weaving techniques alive. Dr. Bhutia, who started this initiative with the aim of preserving indigenous crafts, has received appreciation for blending modern design with age-old traditions. His work has helped create livelihood opportunities for many weavers in rural parts of the state.
