Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended warm greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Pang Lhabsol, describing it as a festival that embodies unity, brotherhood, and harmony among communities.
In his message, the Chief Minister highlighted the deep cultural and spiritual meaning of Pang Lhabsol, a festival that pays reverence to Mt. Khangchendzonga, regarded as the guardian deity of Sikkim. He said the celebration is not only about rituals but also about honoring the historical bond of friendship and respect that shaped the state’s collective identity.
Pang Lhabsol traces its roots to the historic blood-brotherhood treaty signed between Lepcha chieftain Thekong Thek and Bhutia leader Khye-Bum-Sa. This pact, Chief Minister Tamang said, marked the beginning of mutual trust and cooperation between the two communities, laying the foundation for lasting peace in Sikkim. Over the centuries, the festival has evolved into one of the most significant events, now celebrated with equal enthusiasm by all communities in the state.
“Pang Lhabsol has transcended its origins to become a celebration of inclusiveness,” Tamang noted, adding that the festival continues to remind people of Sikkim’s shared heritage and collective responsibility. He offered prayers to Mt. Khangchendzonga, seeking blessings for peace, prosperity, and harmony for the state and its people.
The Chief Minister also urged every Sikkimese to safeguard the cultural traditions that make the state unique. “May this occasion inspire us to preserve our cultural legacy and work together for a future of peace, progress, and prosperity,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Sikkim, Tamang praised their commitment to upholding the values of Pang Lhabsol. He called the festival a “true symbol of unity and brotherhood” that has helped strengthen the bonds among communities and maintain harmony in the state.
