CM Prem Singh Tamang attends high-level meeting on criminal law reforms in northeast

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang participated in a high-level meeting on the implementation of new criminal laws in the Northeastern region, held in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting, convened under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed to review the preparedness and execution of three newly enacted criminal laws across the region.

Representing Sikkim, Chief Minister Tamang expressed gratitude to the Union Home Minister for his guidance in facilitating a smooth legal transition. A detailed report on Sikkim’s progress, challenges, and strategies for implementing the new laws was presented by Chief Secretary R. Telang, IAS.

“As a border state with China, Nepal, and Bhutan, Sikkim prioritizes national security. Our government is committed to strengthening law enforcement, judicial efficiency, and forensic capabilities to enhance security,” the Chief Minister stated.

To ensure seamless implementation of these reforms, the Sikkim government has launched several key initiatives, including:

- Bolstering border surveillance to prevent security threats.

- Enhancing intelligence infrastructure for proactive law enforcement.

- Upgrading police technology for better security management.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Tamang discussed modern policing and judicial reforms, emphasizing:

- Strengthening digital infrastructure in police stations.

- Expanding video conferencing facilities for legal accessibility.

- Improving forensic science laboratories for evidence-based investigations.

- Implementing training programs for law enforcement personnel.

- Modernizing police stations with advanced technology.

- Strengthening Sikkim’s police force and infrastructure.

- Enhancing cybercrime awareness and response measures.

- Aligning forensic advancements with modern investigative techniques.

The Chief Minister highlighted Sikkim’s strides in police modernization and women’s safety initiatives, ensuring the state remains equipped to tackle contemporary policing challenges.
