The Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim has voiced strong concerns over the manner in which the Prime Minister’s visit to Sikkim is being managed, alleging it is dominated solely by supporters of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), excluding other political parties despite all being part of the Sikkimese community.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, CAP spokespersons expressed disappointment over the exclusion, emphasizing that such events should be inclusive and represent the diverse voices of Sikkim. They also countered Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s claim that there were no pending demands to raise during the visit.
The opposition party stated its intention to bring forward several critical issues affecting the state. Among the key demands highlighted were the restoration of the lost Nepali seats in the Assembly, resolution of the longstanding Karmapa issue, granting tribal status to left-out communities, and seat reservation for the Limboo and Tamang communities—both recognized as tribal groups since 2003.
The CAP representatives said that these matters are crucial to safeguarding the rights and aspirations of many Sikkimese and called for a fair and open platform for discussion that transcends party lines.
