Citizen Action Party applauds arrest of hate speech accused Samson Tamang, demands legal action

The Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-Sikkim) has expressed its appreciation to the Sikkim Police for apprehending Samson Tamang in the early hours of February 20, 2025, from Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The arrest follows mounting demands from various organizations and concerned individuals for strict action against Mr. Shamson over his alleged hate speech and derogatory remarks targeting the Khas community.

In a statement issued by CAP-Sikkim Vice President (Administration), Prashant Babu Chettri, the party condemned any form of communal discord and divisive rhetoric that threatens the peace and harmony of Sikkim. "The offensive statements made by Mr. Shamson not only hurt the sentiments of a particular community but also posed a serious threat to the social fabric of our state," the statement emphasized.

The party urged law enforcement agencies and judicial authorities to ensure strict legal action against Mr. Shamson to deter future incidents of hate speech. CAP-Sikkim underscored the importance of zero tolerance for speech or actions intended to disrupt Sikkim’s unity.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of law enforcement, CAP-Sikkim thanked the Government of Sikkim, the Sikkim Police, and the police departments of West Bengal and Bihar for their role in apprehending the accused.

The party also appealed to the public to remain calm and allow legal processes to unfold. “Let us stand united against hate and uphold the values of peace and brotherhood that define our state,” the statement read.
