A three-day Utkarsh Yoga workshop was held at the Chief Minister’s Model Residential School in Tamla Assam Lingzey, Pakyong District, Sikkim, offering students a chance to learn how to focus better, stay calm, and feel happier. The workshop was held from June 22 to June 24, 2025, and saw active participation from 58 students aged between 8 and 13 years.

The program was organized under the guidance of School Director Col Ujjwal Khatiwada. It was conducted by trained Art of Living teachers Shri Bhusan Rai and Smt Sangay Lhamu Bhutia. The workshop was designed especially for young children and focused on helping them use their natural energy in a positive way.

This age group is known to be full of energy and curiosity. However, in today’s time, children often get distracted by mobile phones, social media, and other influences. This can lead to restlessness, confusion, or even mood swings. The Utkarsh Yoga program aims to guide such young minds toward better behavior, calmness, and emotional strength.

Each day, the students took part in 2.5 hours of activities that included a mix of yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, games, and storytelling. The sessions included a variety of engaging and meaningful activities designed to support the overall well-being of the children. Meditation was introduced to help students calm their thoughts and improve their focus. They also practiced Pranayama, a simple breathing exercise that helps strengthen the lungs and brings better control over emotions. One of the main highlights was the Children’s Sudarshan Kriya, a special rhythmic breathing technique that helps reduce stress and bring inner peace. In addition to these practices, the children participated in fun and interactive games that encouraged teamwork and built better communication skills. The sessions also included storytelling and group discussions, where children learned about moral values and how to develop a positive outlook on life.

Students not only enjoyed the sessions but also felt the difference. Many shared that they felt more peaceful, happy, and confident after the sessions. Some said they were sleeping better and felt more energetic in class. Teachers and hostel staff also noticed changes in their behavior. The students were more disciplined, listened better, and got along well with each other.
