A case of child sexual abuse has come to light in Gyalshing District after an 11-year-old girl was rescued by child welfare authorities following reports of repeated sexual assault by a relative.
The case began when Child Helpline 1098 received a disturbing call on Monday evening. The caller reported that a young girl from the area had been sexually abused multiple times during the month of July 2025. The alleged attacker was identified as Lal Kumar Kami, who is the husband of the child's maternal aunt.
According to police sources, the abuse took place at a residence in the district where the child was staying. The exact details of how long the abuse continued remain part of the ongoing investigation, but officials confirm that multiple incidents occurred over several weeks in July.
After receiving the initial report through the Child Helpline, District Child Protection Unit staff immediately sprang into action. Working together with Child Helpline volunteers, they quickly moved to rescue the young girl from the dangerous situation. The rescue operation was carried out smoothly without any complications.
Once the child was brought to safety in Gyalshing, she was interviewed by trained counselors and social workers. During these conversations, the girl confirmed that the reported abuse had indeed taken place. Child welfare experts say that getting victims to speak about such traumatic experiences requires great care and patience.
Following standard procedure in such serious cases, the girl was immediately taken to District Hospital Gyalshing for a complete medical examination. Medical experts conducted a thorough check-up to document any evidence of the alleged abuse. This medical report will become a crucial piece of evidence in the legal case against the accused.
The police also recorded the child's statement under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. This is a special legal procedure designed to protect child victims while ensuring their testimony is properly documented for court proceedings. Trained officers who specialize in handling cases involving minors conducted the statement recording.
After completing all the immediate necessary procedures, the child was handed over to members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The CWC is a specialized body that deals with children who need care and protection. They will now be responsible for ensuring the child receives proper care, counseling, and support during this difficult time.
The case has been registered under multiple serious sections of Indian law. The First Information Report (FIR) number 16/2025 was filed on August 19, 2025, at 10 PM. The charges include Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 7, 8, 9(1)(M)(N), and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012.
