Chalak Welfare Chairman visits Munshithang accident site, assures support to affected family

Sonam Wongdup Bhutia, Chairman of the All Sikkim Chalak Welfare Association, visited the accident site at Munshithang in North Sikkim where a vehicle from the 'J' series met with a fatal mishap on May 30. The vehicle reportedly plunged into a deep gorge, and while rescue teams have been working tirelessly, the driver remains missing.
The Chairman was accompanied by Dawa Lepcha, Vice Chairman (Mangan District), Shri Gyaltsen Bhutia, Executive Member of the Association, and several members of the local taxi community from Mangan. Their presence at the site underlined the Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting drivers and their families during moments of crisis.
During the visit, Bhutia assessed the ground situation, interacted with the local administration and rescue personnel, and offered moral support to the family of the missing driver. He expressed deep concern over the incident and commended the rescue team for their determination and tireless work despite challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.
“We stand with the family in this difficult hour,” Bhutia said. “Under the guidance of our Hon’ble Chief Minister Shriman Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, we will ensure that the affected family receives all possible help. The Association remains committed to supporting the rescue operations and to the welfare of our entire driver fraternity.”
The Chairman also appealed to local authorities and residents to extend their cooperation in the ongoing search efforts. The Association pledged to remain actively involved until the operation concludes and urged all drivers to take extra precautions while navigating through treacherous mountain routes, especially during the monsoon season.
