Citizen Action Party–Sikkim (CAP-S) Spokesperson Albert Gurung on Wednesday extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the media fraternity of Sikkim on the 23rd Foundation Day of the Press Club of Sikkim. In his message, Gurung praised the unwavering dedication and commitment of the press in upholding democratic values and serving society with truth and responsibility.

Calling the day a “celebration of the enduring spirit of journalism in Sikkim,” Gurung noted that the Press Club of Sikkim is not just an institution but a symbol of ethical journalism, free expression, and responsible reporting. He said the Club’s journey over the last 23 years reflects a strong commitment to truth, courage, and public welfare.

He highlighted the importance of the media, stating, “The press is often called the fourth pillar of democracy. It works along with the judiciary, executive, and legislature. In today’s world, the role of the press is not only to report news, but also to explain facts, shape public opinion, and question those in power.”

Gurung also appreciated the efforts of journalists in Sikkim who often work in difficult conditions. He said that despite challenges, media persons continue to raise the voice of the common people, uncover injustices, and highlight the state’s achievements.

“Members of the Press Club of Sikkim have consistently shown dedication. They have been the voice of the people. They have helped preserve our cultural and political stories and brought attention to what really matters,” Gurung said.

The CAP-S spokesperson expressed deep respect for the role of the media in building a better and more transparent society. He stated that the media’s work helps citizens stay informed and makes democracy stronger.

“As we mark 23 years of the Press Club of Sikkim, I offer my gratitude to every journalist and media worker who has contributed to its journey. Your efforts are crucial to making our society more just and inclusive,” he added.
