Brown sugar seized from Tata Sumo in Marchak; driver arrested under NDPS act
During the search, the police recovered 27.96 grams of a substance suspected to be brown sugar, a narcotic drug banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Police from Ranipool Police Station seized 27.96 grams of suspected brown sugar and arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with drug possession and trafficking. The incident took place on July 1, 2025, at New Road, Marchak, under the jurisdiction of Ranipool Police Station in Gangtok district.
The accused, Alok Bhattarcharjee, a resident of Jalpaiguri currently staying at Deorali taxi stand, was driving a Tata Sumo bearing registration number SK-03J-0560. Acting on a tip-off, the vehicle was intercepted at New Road and a search was conducted by the police team.
During the search, the police recovered 27.96 grams of a substance suspected to be brown sugar, a narcotic drug banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The search and seizure were carried out in the presence of two independent witnesses and a gazetted officer, in accordance with Section 42 of the NDPS Act. The vehicle used for suspected transportation of drugs was also seized by the authorities.
Following the recovery, a case was formally registered under FIR No. 28/2025, dated 01/07/2025, under Sections 21(b), 22(b), and 27 of the NDPS Act. The case has been handed over to Sub-Inspector Phur Tshering Lepcha for further investigation.
