The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Sikkim, has strongly condemned a recent statement made by Congress MP Dr. Ajoy Kumar in which he allegedly likened Sikkim to Pakistan. The controversial remark, which appeared on the official social media page of the Indian National Congress, has triggered widespread anger and disappointment among the people of Sikkim and the wider Northeast region.
In an official statement, BJYM Sikkim described the remarks as “irresponsible” and “deeply insensitive.” The youth wing of the BJP said that calling Sikkim a “geopolitical hotspot” and comparing it to a hostile foreign country is not only incorrect but also highly insulting to the patriotic people of Sikkim, who have always stood firmly with India.
“Sikkim is, was, and will always be an inseparable part of Bharat,” said Lalit Pokhrel Sharma, BJYM Incharge for Sikkim. He added, “Such statements are not just misleading—they disrespect the sentiments and sacrifices of the Sikkimese people.”
BJYM Sikkim has accused the Congress party of holding a “cheap mentality” toward the Northeast region. The organization said that the Congress has often alienated the people of the Northeast for political gains. “This is yet another example of how Congress leaders view Northeast India as an afterthought,” Sharma said.
The group also pointed out that Sikkim, often called the guardian brother of the seven sister states, is being unfairly targeted once again. “Seven sisters have their guardian brother (Sikkim) haunted yet again. This statement reflects the true mindset of Congress leadership,” the BJYM statement read.
BJYM Sikkim has called on the Indian National Congress to acknowledge the hurt caused and issue a public clarification. “The Congress must come out and face the reality. Sikkim is not a foreign land, and comparing it to Pakistan is shameful,” the statement added.
The youth wing further urged citizens across the country, especially from the Northeast, to remain united and reject such divisive language. “We must all come together to uphold national integrity. Divisive rhetoric has no place in our democracy,” said Sharma.
