BJP State President D.R. Thapa, along with senior members of the party, visited the Majhitar Railway Station site in Rangpo on Saturday to review the progress of the long-awaited railway project that promises to transform connectivity in Sikkim.
During the visit, Mr. Thapa and his team held a detailed meeting with Joint General Manager P.K. Sagar, who briefed them about the present status of the project and the steps being taken for its timely completion. According to officials, steady progress is being made in spite of several challenges such as difficult terrain, weather conditions, and logistical hurdles.
Mr. Thapa, while interacting with the media after the inspection, said that the project is of great importance to Sikkim as it will not only connect the state with the national railway network but will also open new opportunities for tourism, trade, and local employment. “The people of Sikkim are eagerly waiting for this project. Once completed, it will bring down travel time, improve business opportunities, and make the state more accessible to tourists. We are committed to supporting this work in every possible way,” he said.
The BJP delegation assured officials that all possible assistance from local communities would be extended to ensure smooth functioning of the project. Mr. Thapa underlined that development projects of such scale often face small local challenges, but with cooperation and understanding between the government, contractors, and local residents, these issues can be resolved quickly. He also pledged that the party would take up concerns of the people in affected areas so that their interests are safeguarded while work progresses.
The railway project at Majhitar is being viewed as a milestone in Sikkim’s infrastructure development. Currently, Sikkim remains the only state in the region without direct railway connectivity. Once operational, the railway line will not only make travel easier for locals but will also give a big push to the state’s economy by strengthening trade links with neighboring states and the rest of India.
