The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim has categorically rejected the ongoing discussions regarding the unification of Sikkim and Darjeeling, terming them baseless and impractical. Dr. Thapa, State President of BJP Sikkim said that such debates are not only unfounded but also counterproductive to the state's progress.

Speaking on Sikkim's unique status under Article 371F of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Thapa said that the state's special provisions ensure its distinct cultural, linguistic, and historical identity. "Sikkim's special status is a product of its unique historical context and is integral to its identity. Any suggestion of unification with Darjeeling disregards these critical factors," he stated.

Article 371F, which provides Sikkim with exclusive protections, stands as a legal and constitutional barrier to any potential merger. BJP Sikkim stressed that this unique provision is central to maintaining the state's autonomy and safeguarding its traditions.

Rather than entertaining unification debates, the party called for collective efforts toward Sikkim's development. "Our focus should be on initiatives that drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance social welfare. Sikkim has immense potential, and we must prioritize issues that matter to its people," Dr. Thapa added.

The BJP Sikkim urged stakeholders to "bury these nonsensical discussions" and shift their attention to fostering a brighter future for the state.
