The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sikkim has demanded a judicial probe into the case of Samson Tamang, who was recently arrested over his controversial remarks on the Khas community. BJP Sikkim Spokesperson said that Tamang’s statement has created disharmony in the state and is disturbing the peaceful coexistence among communities.

"When the controversy over Samson Tamang’s statement started, we immediately met the Director General of Police (DGP) and demanded his early arrest. Sikkim Police took action and arrested him after 13 days, for which we appreciate their efforts," the spokesperson said.

However, BJP Sikkim has now raised serious concerns over the way the police handled the case after Tamang’s arrest. "There was negligence in the investigation. When he was brought to Rangpo, a criminal was allowed to speak to the media. Later, we saw a photo of him sitting on a chair with a computer at the Sadar Police Station. This raises doubts about how the police are conducting the probe," the spokesperson added.

BJP Sikkim has urged the state government to form a judicial commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952. "The government has the power to set up a commission, and we demand that the investigation be carried forward under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge," the party stated.

The BJP also suspects that certain individuals and organizations were involved in Tamang’s hate speech. The party pointed out that even Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, while addressing the Assembly, mentioned that some people and organizations from within the state were behind the remarks aimed at disturbing peace.

"In Samson Tamang’s second video, the names of Sikkim’s first Chief Minister, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from the state, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Sikkim CM, and Citizen Action Party Chief Ganesh Rai were mentioned. This raises serious concerns," BJP Sikkim said.
