The BJP Mahila Morcha Sikkim conducted an important outreach programme with Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the Tumin-Lingee constituency of East Sikkim.

The meeting, held with members of Kokaley and Rahling Ward Development Societies, saw active participation from ten different SHGs. These included Mandakeny, Lotus, Kanchan View, Surya Kiran, Deep Jyoti, Parijat, Pragati, Sosum, Sthilan Prima, and Kushum SHGs. All these groups are working at the community level, helping women build sustainable livelihoods and become financially independent.

Present at the event were Srijana Chettri, General Secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha Sikkim, and Tara Subba, Vice President of the women’s wing, along with other party workers. The team interacted with the women, listened to their challenges, and introduced them to various Central Government schemes that focus on empowering women economically and socially.

The highlight of the meeting was the awareness drive on key schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana, and other financial inclusion programmes. The leaders explained how these schemes are designed to support women in rural areas by offering them financial help, skill development opportunities, and basic needs like cooking gas connections.

In particular, the team focused on Ujjwala Yojana, a Central Government scheme under which LPG gas connections are provided to women from low-income households. As part of the outreach, documentation work for the Ujjwala Yojana was also carried out on the spot. Women were guided on how to apply and what documents are required, making the process easier and more accessible.
