In a move to mark the 11th anniversary of the Modi government, the BJP Gangtok District team on Saturday organised a welfare outreach camp and a plantation drive, aiming to serve both the people and the planet.

The event was held at the Helipad area under the Upper Burtuk Constituency. Led by BJP State President Shri DR Thapa, the team launched an Ayushman Bharat and E-Shram registration camp. The goal was to ensure that deserving citizens from nearby areas could access key welfare benefits introduced by the central government. Also present were Mandal presidents, senior party workers, and the IT support team.

At the camp, people received their Ayushman Bharat cards, which offer free medical care worth up to ₹5 lakhs per family per year. The initiative is seen as a big help for families struggling with health expenses. Workers from the unorganised sector were also registered under the E-Shram scheme, which provides insurance cover and social security to people without a formal job structure.

The camp was praised by many local residents who had previously found it difficult to access such benefits. According to party functionaries, the camp especially helped senior citizens above 70 years of age and people from weaker sections of society.

Earlier in the day, the BJP Gangtok team also carried out a plantation drive at Bakthang, showing their commitment to environmental protection. The green initiative was led by BJP State Vice President Shri Dinesh Chandra Nepal and included Media Incharge Niren Bhandari, Coordinator Sangey Pulger, and District President Shri Pempo Dorjee Lepcha. Several Mandal Presidents, party executives, and Karyakartas joined in planting saplings and raising awareness on protecting nature.

Speaking on the occasion, Media Incharge Niren Bhandari said, “This dual effort of service and sustainability reflects our vision—helping people and caring for the environment. We believe that development and greenery must go hand-in-hand.”
