Biker injures house help in hit-and-run near a petrol pump in Gangtok

A speeding motorbike struck a pedestrian near Baba Fuels Petrol Pump leaving a woman seriously injured.

On May 30, 2025, at around 6:20 p.m., Anita Gadal, a 36-year-old house help was crossing the road near the petrol pump at 32 No., Gangtok District, when she was hit by a motorcycle bearing the registration number SK-01PD-6291. The rider, identified as 20-year-old Abhishek Rai from Mangthang, Pakyong District allegedly lost control, causing the collision. Gadal sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Central Referral Hospital (CRH), Manipal, before being transferred to New STNM Hospital in Gangtok for advanced treatment. Rai also suffered bodily injuries in the crash and was treated at CRH before being released to his family.

The incident was reported to the Ranipool Police Station by Bikash Gurung, a 39-year-old resident of Radang, 32 Mile, Gangtok, whose father-in-law employs Gadal. In a written First Information Report (FIR) filed at 10:21 p.m. on May 30, Gurung detailed the accident and demanded action from the authorities. The police registered a case under sections 281, 125(a), and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against Rai for rash driving and causing grievous hurt. Assistant Sub-Inspector Durga Bdr Gautam has been assigned to investigate the case.
