Former Australia batter Simon Katich has urged selectors to reconsider Mitchell Marsh's position in the team following his underwhelming performance during the Boxing Day Test against India. Speaking to PTI, Katich highlighted concerns over Marsh's ability to fulfil the all-rounder role effectively, given his limited contributions with both bat and ball.

Despite Josh Hazlewood's injury, Marsh bowled only two overs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, leaving Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc to shoulder the workload. Adding to the pressure, Marsh's batting form has been lackluster, raising questions about his spot in the squad.

"Marsh is under pressure because he isn’t bowling much. Even after Hazlewood’s injury, he bowled just two overs, and his batting hasn’t compensated for that," Katich said. "Selectors have a decision to make after this Test."

Katich also noted that Mitchell Starc's fitness remains a concern, suggesting that Jhye Richardson, Sean Abbott, or Spencer Johnson could be potential replacements. While Johnson has impressed in the Big Bash League, Katich emphasized the need for consistent performances in the Sheffield Shield to earn a Test debut.

Meanwhile, Katich praised India's Jasprit Bumrah as one of the best fast bowlers to have toured Australia in the last two decades. "Bumrah's pace, unique action, and ability to move the ball both ways make him exceptional," Katich said, lauding his skillful dismissal of Alex Carey during the series.
