The third day of the 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup turned out to be a wonderful mix of sports, tradition, and community spirit at the Archery Field in Karthok, Pakyong. It was a bright day filled with excitement, joy, and a deep respect for Sikkim’s cultural roots.

The event welcomed popular social worker Mr. Amar Subba as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Mr. Mindup Bhutia, Mr. Kenzong Bhutia, and Mr. Canny Gurung as Guests of Honour. Their presence brought extra enthusiasm to the event. They interacted warmly with the teams and the spectators, encouraging everyone to celebrate both the sport and the spirit of unity.

The main highlight of the day was the archery match between TAC Namchi and Navey Sotak. The match saw TAC Namchi take a strong lead, finishing with a clear victory of 29-17. With this win, TAC Namchi secured a place in the next round of the competition. Their excellent teamwork and focus were praised by all.

But the day was not just about archery. It was also a celebration of Sikkim’s rich cultural traditions. Beautiful traditional dances were performed by groups from Chochen Pheri GPU and Rolep Lamaten GPU. The Bhutia and Rai dances brought color, rhythm, and a strong sense of pride in local heritage. The performances received loud applause from the crowd, young and old alike.

Adding more fun to the day, a traditional dart competition was also held. This game, once very popular in villages, was organized to promote and revive the charm of old local sports. It was a reminder of how festivals and events can help keep traditions alive while bringing people together.

To show respect and gratitude, the Pakyong District Archery Association presented a traditional souvenir to Chief Guest Mr. Amar Subba. The handcrafted item was a token of appreciation for his years of dedicated service to the community.

What made this year’s Gold Cup even more meaningful was the fact that it coincides with the celebration of 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood. This added a sense of pride and emotion to the occasion. The Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup has always been a prestigious event, and this year, the connection to Sikkim’s golden jubilee made it even more special for everyone involved.
