Former Sikkim Chief Minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) President Pawan Chamling launched a scathing attack on the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on the occasion of SDF’s 33rd foundation day. Addressing party supporters, Chamling accused SKM of corruption and alleged that the party had looted Sikkim’s resources for personal gains.
“All the goons are in SKM. They have looted Sikkim, sold off important assets like Teesta Urja, and are now distributing money to the public in the name of government schemes,” Chamling said. He urged people to accept money given by SKM but vote for SDF in the elections. “That way, they will learn a lesson,” he added.
Outlining SDF’s vision if voted back to power, Chamling emphasized the party’s commitment to farmers and villagers. “Our government will work for the people in villages. We will take care of farmers and those involved in agricultural activities. We will ensure that they are not neglected,” he said.
He also promised free food distribution and subsidized essentials for the needy. “We will provide food and other essentials at a subsidized rate. We will build houses for farmers and give them Rs 60,000 per year to support their needs,” he said.
Chamling further said that SDF would work on long-term solutions for rural stability. “It’s not just about giving money; people need stability and a steady flow of income. If we return to power, we will provide half an acre of land to each village family. Earlier, we built houses for the people, but this time, we will provide Rs 20 lakh per family, so they can build their houses as per their needs,” he said.
Chamling also highlighted plans to improve education by directly transferring funds to parents for uniforms and textbooks. “Instead of middlemen, we will ensure that money goes straight to parents so they can buy uniforms and study materials for their children,” he said.
On employment, the SDF leader said the party would focus on job creation in villages. “Just giving money is not enough. Villagers need jobs and employment opportunities. We will convert every Gram Panchayat into a tourist destination and attract visitors to homestays. Our goal is to make Sikkim the best tourist destination in India,” he said.
Chamling accused SKM of misusing public funds. “SKM has eaten up Sikkim. They have looted money meant for the development of villages. If we come back to power, we will ensure that every rupee meant for the people reaches them directly,” he said.
