The All Sikkim Manger Association (ASMA) has strongly condemned recent instances of hate speech, derogatory remarks, and discriminatory rhetoric targeting the Khas community. In a statement issued today, the association expressed deep concern over these inflammatory actions, which threaten to divide the social fabric of Sikkim and undermine the core values of unity, respect, and coexistence that the state has cherished for generations.
The ASMA emphasized that the Khas community, like all other ethnic groups, has played a vital role in shaping the cultural, social, and economic landscape of Sikkim. Any attempt to marginalize, demean, or vilify the community is an affront to the principles of equality, dignity, and brotherhood that define the state's multicultural identity.
"We urge the authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible for spreading hate speech and inciting division," stated the association. "Freedom of speech must not be misused to insult or provoke any community."
The association also called on all civil society groups, organizations, and citizens to unite against such divisive rhetoric. "The strength of Sikkim lies in its unity in diversity. It is our collective responsibility to protect and promote peace, understanding, and mutual respect," they added.
ASMA reiterated its commitment to fostering an inclusive society, where every community is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. The association stands in solidarity with the Khas community, recognizing their cultural heritage, language, and historical contributions, and pledges its support for their efforts in the pursuit of social justice, identity preservation, and equal opportunities in all aspects of life.
