Air Force rescues 12 army personnel after road accident in Sikkim

The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully rescued 12 paramilitary personnel who were injured in a road accident near Juluk, located in the Sikkim sector. The rescue operation, which took place on December 20, 2024, saw the deployment of both Cheetah and Mi-17 helicopters to navigate the challenging terrain and airlift the injured personnel to safety.

The accident occurred near Juluk, situated at an altitude of approximately 12,000 feet, which presented significant challenges due to the area's difficult accessibility and the small size of the Juluk helipad. Despite these obstacles, the Eastern Air Command swiftly mobilized its resources, dispatching Cheetah helicopters to the helipad and Mi-17 helicopters from Gangtok for the operation.

Within hours, the injured personnel were airlifted and transported to a military hospital in Bengdubi, near Bagdogra, where they received immediate medical attention. According to officials, all 12 personnel are now reported to be out of danger, thanks to the quick response of the IAF and the successful evacuation under extreme conditions.
