20th Sikkim State Boxing Championship concludes with enthusiasm in Namchi

The 20th Elite Youth Men’s and Women’s Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2024 concluded on December 25 capping three days of fierce competition and vibrant celebrations of boxing excellence. Organized by the Namchi District Boxing Association (NDBA) in partnership with the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA), the event underscored the growing prominence of boxing in the state.

The championship’s grand closing ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa, as Chief Guest. Joining her were MLA of Namchi-Singithang and Chief Patron of NDBA, Satish Chandra Rai, Arjuna Awardee and SABA President Jas Lal Pradhan, Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach Sandhya Gurung, MD (SBS) P Wangdi Bhutia, Namchi DC Anupa Tamling, SDM Namchi, and other notable officials and contractors.

The event began with vibrant cultural performances, including a group song and a western dance that energized the audience. Chief Patron Satish Chandra Rai addressed the gathering, praising the athletes for their commitment and emphasizing the state government’s unwavering support for sports development under the leadership of Chief Minister PS Golay.

Chief Guest Raj Kumari Thapa commended the organizers for hosting a successful championship and highlighted the transformative role of sports in youth development. She also celebrated the achievements of local sports icons like Sandhya Gurung and Jas Lal Pradhan, encouraging young athletes to emulate their inspiring journeys.
