The 1st Sikkim State Inter-School Badminton Championship 2025 has concluded with resounding success, drawing praise and appreciation from across the state. Organized by the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), the two-day tournament marked a significant milestone in promoting grassroots-level badminton among school students across all six districts.

In a message of gratitude issued on Wednesday, Jacob Khaling, President of BAS, thanked every individual and institution that contributed to the championship’s success. He acknowledged the executive members of BAS, district badminton associations, affiliated clubs, technical officials, match commissioners, and central observers for their dedication and hard work.

“Your commitment and teamwork turned this ambitious vision into a proud reality,” Khaling stated. The tournament was the first of its kind at the state level, and despite the challenges of organizing such a large-scale event, the collaboration between stakeholders ensured its smooth execution.

District committees played a crucial role in hosting the matches at the local level, and the enthusiastic participation of government and private schools, students, teachers, and coaches added energy and excitement to the championship. “The positive feedback and active involvement of schools and students have been immensely encouraging,” said Khaling.

The inaugural event featured competitions in both singles and team formats, giving young players a platform to display their talent. The tournament saw vibrant participation from budding shuttlers from all corners of Sikkim, reinforcing the growing interest in badminton as a school sport.

BAS also announced that the district-level winners and runners-up will now advance to the State-Level Finals to be held in Gangtok in the first week of August 2025. The finals will decide the State Champion School Team and individual titleholders of the inaugural edition.

Special appreciation was extended to the media houses, both print and digital, for their extensive coverage, which helped amplify the event’s reach and impact. The Sports Department, Power Department, District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and other district officials were also thanked for their essential support in ensuring smooth logistics, infrastructure, and coordination.

Above all, the association expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim and Chief Patron of BAS, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for his visionary leadership and steadfast support in advancing badminton in the state.

“His guidance continues to inspire us,” Khaling said. “Under his leadership, we are confident of nurturing world-class badminton talent from Sikkim.”
