16th Finance Commission team arrives in Bagdogra for five-day visit to Sikkim

The Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission of India, Dr. Arvind Panagariya along with its members arrived at Bagdogra airport today to begin their five-day visit to Sikkim. The team is in the state from January 19 to January 23, 2025 to assess financial matters and engage with local officials.

Accompanying Dr. Panagariya are Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew, Manoj Panda and Ritvik Pandey along with key personnel from the Finance Commission Secretariat. The delegation also includes K K Mishra, Joint Secretary; Kumar Vivek, PS to Chairman; Davinder Chodha, Joint Director; Abhishek Nandan, OSD; Promila Rajvanshi, PS to Member; Bhakesh Hazarika, Assistant Director; and Arushi Gupta, Assistant Director.

Upon their arrival, the guests were warmly welcomed by a group of officials from Sikkim's government departments. Rajendra Sharma, Principal Director of the Finance Department along with Kumar Bardewa, Principal Director of the Finance Department were present at the airport to greet the team. Other notable officials included Norbu Dadul, Director of the Forest Department, Binod Sharma, Director of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Manoj Rai, Commissioner of the Commercial Tax Division and Sukriti Tewari, Senior Accounts Officer from the Science and Technology Department.

The delegation was also received by Karma Thendup Thapa, Joint Director of the Home Department and staff from the Protocol Unit, Siliguri, as well as representatives from the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), Sikkim National Transport (SNT) and TIC Bagdogra.
