16th Finance Commission members visit Namchi district for official tour

A team of distinguished members from the 16th Finance Commission of India arrived in Namchi District on January 21 as part of their five-day official visit. The delegation, which includes Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew and Promila Rajvanshi was accompanied by liaison officers from the Finance Department of the Government of Sikkim, including Binod Sharma, Norbu Dadul and Rituja Gajmer.
Upon their arrival at Tathagata Tsal in Ravangla, the visitors were warmly welcomed by a host of local officials, including Rishal Dorjee Bhutia, MLA of Barfung Constituency, Subhash Ghimire, ADC (HQ) Namchi and Tshiten Bhutia, OSD of Tathagata Tsal. Also present were Nim Pintso Bhutia, SDM (HQ) Namchi, Sunil Kumar Mothey, ADC Ravangla and Rinchen Dorjee Bhutia, SDM Ravangla along with Bishnu Prasad Sharma, Former Chairman of STCS.
The delegation’s itinerary included a visit to the Bada Bangla Eco Resort in Temi, where they were greeted by Ravi Kumar, the in-charge of Temi Tea. Following this, the team proceeded to the Temi Tea Factory, where Ravi Kumar provided an insightful demonstration of the tea-making process. The delegation also visited B.A.C. Temi Tarku, where they were joined by Roshan Rai, BDO of Temi.
A key highlight of the visit was Ajay Narayan Jha’s address to a gathering of local officials, during which he engaged in a constructive dialogue with Panchayat Presidents and the BDO. The session offered an opportunity for open discussions on local governance and community development, with the Finance Commission members keen to gather feedback and suggestions for enhancing public administration.
